Remember that nice spring day I mentioned?
Not so much.
“Too cold, Mama.”
All better in her “eskino” coat. Personally I think it looks like she skinned a teddy bear and made a coat out of it but whatever, she loves it.
Notable quotes this month:
“Why?” (no explanation needed)
“Daddy fix it.” ( said as though Mama isĀ incapableĀ of doing even the smallest thing – like replacing batteries or changing a light bulb)
“I kiss you boo-boo.” (microscopic or imaginary though they may be)
“I get you band-aid.” (but only if she gets 3 or 4 for herself in the process)
She insists on kissing everything goodbye. Shoes, dirty dishes, the TV remote, Mama’s camera, her books before bed – they’re all fair game. It’s very sweet but can get tiresome when you’re trying to be somewhere or do something else.
She’s starting to really develop logical thinking skills and she remembers EVERYthing. In fact I kind of miss those days where out of sight out of mind was the norm as that’s no longer the case. Not only does she have eagle eyes and sonic hearing but she has a memory like an elephant so I can’t tell her we’ll do something later unless I’m darn sure planning to do it.
I can almost see the full blown pre-schooler now. She can jump from a ledge and no longer loses her balance, she can throw a ball reasonably well and catch not at all (which might be related to her parents’ complete lack of interest in sports resulting in a complete inability to aim when throwing the ball to her anyway), she probably could ride her trike reasonably well if she could actually reach the handlebars and pedals without having to sit on the very front edge of the seat which causes her to topple off, and her verbal development is beyond crazy. Leaps and bounds every single day. And I’m amazed, truly amazed at how much she can actually do for herself these days. All of a sudden she can put her own clothes on (mostly) and shoes as well – except only on the correct feet about 20 % of the time (shouldn’t that be statistically improbable?).
Every month I think this is the best it’s ever going to be and every month I’m proven wrong as it just gets better and better.
Ahhh, there’s nothing – and I mean nothing – like that first really perfect spring day after a long, cold winter.
So we reached out and grabbed the morning with all of our hands then ran like mad for the hills. Well, for the local park, anyway. There aren’t that many hills around here.
We got started after a slight (loud) meltdown by Ava. She saw a pinecone.
Yes, that caused much drama. I have it on video but I can’t post it because all you hear is me laughing at her drama queen-ness and her screaming louder and louder because now she’s not only traumatized by the pinecone but she’s getting madder and madder at me for laughing. I figure if the screaming didn’t scare you off of the blog then my clearly poor parenting skills would.
J finally went and got her then stuck her in the backpack after she 1)refused to walk past anymore pinecones and 2)fell tush over tea kettle for some unknown reason probably relating to aforementioned pinecones.
We’re finally off:
Giddy-up, Daddy:

I was trying to get her to look at me for a picture so I asked her to show me her beautiful eyes.
She did. Literally. Smart-aleck.

We found a geocache (from memory, actually) since J didn’t bring his GPS and we only had my iPhone which will get you close but no cigar.
We did let her walk when she asked to…

but she got tired after 4 feet or so and had to take a break for a rest and a rousing rendition of Mary Had A Yittle Yam.
And a few tickles from Mama.
(Straightened hair courtesy of my hairdresser who apparently wanted a (futile) challenge and had some spare time on her hands.)
After all of us had some time to catch our breath and prepare for the trek out (it always seems like a good idea to hike the whole trail…until I get about halfway in and realize what I’ve actually committed to) Ava decided that she’d really rather ride so J loaded her up in the backpack and I took one of the sweetest pictures ever. Totally unplanned and unposed, by the way.
Is that pure cane sugar sweetness or what?
Who knew it would start this young?
We were celebrating Izzy’s dad’s birthday and waiting on a table at a local wing place when the girls hopped up to give driving a go. They loved just sitting there and steering frantically (and pointlessly).
Oh heavens, I can see a little bit of the future in these pictures.
Setting: Ava and Mama sitting at the breakfast table enjoying a leisurely breakfast when Ava passes gas. Loudly.
Ava: “Mama, I just burped in my pants.”
despite Ava’s best attempts at (unintentionally) terrorizing it while running amok in the backyard on a warmish winter day where we felt the first hint of spring in the air.
We had sun.

A not freezing breeze.

A tricycle.
Sunglasses…

and a swing.

She climbed up high for one last slide before heading inside to call my dad and wish him a Happy Birthday (she’s beyond delighted anytime she gets to sing that song)

and was promptly joined by the (not so much anymore) baby cat

who she promptly tried to assassinate by pushing helping it down the slide (ummm, except kind of straight off the side really).

Apparently we need to work a bit harder on sharing and taking turns. She was a little too happy that the slide was all hers once again.
Since EllieCat adores Ava she promptly came back for more, more, more in just a matter of seconds.

Crazy cat. Crazy kid.
